Check for update unavailable. Fir 4 straight months. New Sim today, still unavailable. Verizon says this is normal behavior. I call BS. HELP

Factory data reset. Can almost guarantee this will fix it and there is no other known solution. Since it's the same device, everything should be backed up, apps/app data/everything, so once you start back up everything will be automatically reinstalled and you'll be right where you left off. No need for titanium backup or anything. Tedious, but like I said, the only known solution.

What are you on now?

If Factory Reset doesn't work (and it probably will) you can install the updates manually. There are several threads on where to get the updates and how to install them.

...and installing an update this way may even clear up the no update problem too....

This worked for me without having to do a factory data reset

Setting > Battery & Data Manager > Data delivery > Social Applications and then uncheck "Sync over Wi-Fi only"

Factory reset will fix it.
I was informed by the Motorola tech while doing the first update soak to do a reset to associate my account with the server. I was having this exact problem & it took care of it.
My wife's phone also had this problem when the 2nd update came out & I had to factory reset it to solve the problem.
All my phones have come from Costco. I think it may be an issue with the way Costco is activating the phones.

I know you don't want to do it but just make a list of all your apps & home screen settings.
Make sure you have done a manual sync to the server for account settings & contacts, than go for it. It really will not take that long to get right back to where you were & you will get the updates.

On a side note this will also fix not being able to set up your Picasa account if that is not working for you just add Picasa when entering your Google account info when signing in.

Thanks for the info. I kind of knew i would end up doing a reset, but was avoiding it. You finally get the dam phone where you lime it, and then you have to start over.

I am on 5.5.893.

Guess i will bite the bullet and reset. Better than sending the bullet down the barrel and through the phone.

Well, if you want to install it yourself and avoid starting over, just go to http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-bionic-tech-support/198205-no-update-received.html

The link to get the update and the steps are in post #10.

One question; in your original post you said you've always gotten the "Unavailable" message for 4 months and you're on 5.5.893. How did you get that update? It's just possible that it isn't scheduled to come to you yet.

5.5.893 just showed up during a check for updates. Since that update always get the unavailable message. VZ and MOTO techs say my phone is up to date but should show that when I do check for update. They told me to take to VZW store for sim replacement and that should at least make it read up to date. Update unavailable means that it isn't even checking. I may jsut try to sideload. 902 as that is what the Moto tech told me after the VZW tech hung up from the call.

Factory resets really aren't that big of a deal anymore. Literally everything is backed up to google cloud services, not just contacts/emails like before, so your phone will automatically reinstall everything when it's done, you'll have a clean, fresh phone thats right where you left off and a brand new update.

Just side loaded. 902. Phone seems faster. Need to do way more testing. Still getting Update unavailable, but honestly, i just don't care.

At least you're up to date and assuming there's another update coming, I'm sure you'll be able to get it on this forum.
