Changing pictureless contacts't icons

Rocky

Member
Can someone please tell me how to do I install the Android robot icon instead of the human one (with the "?" sign)? This for calls and texts to and form people for which I have no contact picture set for whatever reason.

I'm talking about the one that came stock on the DI. Now I'm using a DIII.

Any help is much appreciated.

If you are rooted you can do it. As far as I remember (it has been a while) it is a framework image you would need to change out the image and then flash the new framework in recovery.

I use ninjamorph for all of my icon/png replacement - it's in the android market, and that png you're looking for is in framework-res.apk/res/drawable-hdpi or drawable-xdpi depending on your device :)

Good call TP. I have never used ninjamorph but probably should check it out

Thanks.

It seems like I got some steps down, but can't figure out where I'm at right now. Can you possibly help a little more?

I'm at a "framework-res.apk" screen within Ninjamorph, not knowing what to do next.

Thanks. I'm kinda following the steps. This high-tech moves are a whole different world to me.

For instance I don't know where to get the Robot icons to put in place of the ones that came with the phone.

Sure, let me get home and I'll walk you through it.

In the meantime make sure you have a decent backup in recovery, I'll be home within the hour :)

Please don't kill me if I don't have this by the time you get home. I have to find out how to do that as well.

Your talking about these guys right, thinking twice I believe they will get pulled from the individual apps ie: Phone.apk and Mms.apk - if you have NinjaMorph already go to "new project" system/app and select Phone.apk or Mms.apk and when it asks you which item you would like to change navigate to res/drawable-hdpi and look for the images you would like to change, you need to have the above images on your sd card already - it will ask you what to replace it with and you will need to navigate to wherever you have these icons stored and then select one of the two. When you have replaced everything you need to select "finish project" and it will run through a series of functions and ask you "are you sure" a few times - when it's done you may see a few force closes but a reboot will solve all of that

...any questions just ask :)

Yes, those.

Okay. First of all, I don't know where to get the replacement icons.Second, I'm in Ninjamorph, but not sure which is the right phone apk: I see PhoneAddons.apk and PhoneConfig.apk

No worries, I wouldn't do anything if you don't have a good backup - your're rooted right ?
Yes, I'm rooted. I was just looking at ROM Manager. Is that what you'd recommend I get? If so, will the free version do?
