Car Panel Footprints App

I'm sure this has been asked and answered but if so...surely can't find it so please excuse....

What exactly does the footprints app in Car Panel do and how does it work?

It pretty much tells yo the location and information of the picture you just took of, example, if you just took a picture of the Brooklyn Bridge it would tell you the name of the object where it is located and it's origin, same if you took a picture of the Statue of Liberty.
