Car Charger

Is the car charger for HTC Droid Eris the same as for the Samsung Charge?
If not why (other than making me buy different ones) can't cell phone manufacturers build phone to accept the same chargers?

They certainly can. Why they don't should be obvious. However, many use microUSB these days.
