can't send outgoing email

I have Optimum and I can get and read my optimum account emails, but when I try and send email, my X reads "authentication error sending"
I checked with my service provider and all the settings are correct.
What else can I try?

Authentication woes with Cox.net

I'm having the same problem using Cox. "Authentication failure" and the message won't send. receives fine. Any help, yet?
