Cannot upgrade Droid4 to 6.13.215

Cannot upgrade Droid4 to 6.13.219

I foolishly uninstalled (instead of freezing - yes, I now know better) some of the bloatware from the standard (6.13.2150 release (like Yahoo and etc) and ran foul of the contacts error described in
http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-4-tech-support/203593-error-contact-storage.html

I followed the method to correct but obviously had some other files missing.

Then along came the OTA upgrade to 6.13.219 which failed - so I tried the manual method using
http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-4-tech-support/206236-motorola-droid-4-update-6-13-219-a.html

the upgrade starts but aborts complaining

assert failed apply_patch_check ("/system/app/BlurGallery.apk" ......... (some long numbers)
E:Error in /tmp/sideload/package.zip
(Status7)
Installation aborted.

Would someone mind posting BlurGallery.apk from the original version -- or better yet perhaps all the /system/app directory (as who knows what else I'm missing) ?

you can use my dump to restore any deleted system files.
http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-4-hacks/198775-droid-4-dump.html

1.root your phone. and voodoo rootkeep it.
2.install root explorer.
3.copy the needed files to your sd card(apk, odex)
4.navigate to /system/app with root explorer
5.change the folder to rw from ro
6.copy the odex and apk from your sdcard to /system/app
8.change the folder back to ro
7.change permissions of the odexs and apks to rw-r-r
9.copy build.prop to /system/ with root explorer
10.change permissions to rw-r-r
11.reboot and flash the update

Thanks --

I found your dump a couple of hours ago and am back on track - have successfully upgraded.
Since I had not seen your post - I followed a slightly different sequence to the one you outlined, basically without retaining root.

The one thing you mentioned was "copy build.prop to /system/ .." I did not do that - but all seems well.

So - for my edification - what does build.prop do? Did I miss an essential step ?

it is like the id of your phone. this one says its a d4, but you can change it to say you got like a kindle fire or a nexus s. personally the v6 script i ran on mine edited my build.prop so i had to replace it as well.

This gives my phone a bootloop, idk what I'm doing wrong i followed the instructions, anytime i copy something from your dump into my phone with root explorer it just turns off, goes to boot animation and boot loops me =(

just replace missing files dont copy them all over, and remember the permissions rw-r-r. the other thing you should try is rootbrowser because if i remember correctly some versions of root explorer dont work on the phone.

But how do know which files I'm missing? I think i have all of them, but when i try to install the update it tells me i have an error with the files i already have. And also i have the change the permissions of the files in your dump before i replace my own or after?

I get the same error (Status 7). I am rooted but I don't think I uninstalled any apps. I did freeze them using titanium backup. I tried unfreezing all the apps and that did not work. Still get the error. One thing I did do was "integrate updates of system apps into ROM" I didnt think this would be a problem with the OTA update but maybe it is. Going to try and restore the system apps and see if it works then.

Now I got the OTA, but it still wont update, it just booted the phone back on after downloading and says update failed, someone help please because i really want to update  I mostly get framework-res.apk error but sadly if replace mine with the one in the dump, I get a bootloop

OK,

So I finally got it to work. Here were the files I was missing for some reason. I have no idea how these got deleted:

BooksPhone.odex
Maps.odex
MOTOPRINT.odex
Phonesky.odex
SmartActions.apk - I actually had this file on the phone but had to overwrite it for some reason.
SmartActions.odex
Youtube.odex
Videos.odex

While doing this and using root explorer, my phone started constantly rebooting. It would stay on for about a minute and reboot. Eventually it just hug at the droid screen so I had to do a factory reset and restore everything with Titanium Pro. Not sure what exactly caused the system to become unstable but maybe it was not using windows to eject the phone. I just pulled the USB out from time to time. Just a guess.

Anyway, The patch finally worked. The only issue I have now is that I get a force close on Google search service. I am not searching for anything, it just happens. Doesn't seem to do anything to the phone or any search function.

So its ok to overwrite my framework-res.apk and then factory reset because all i get is a bootloop

Edit: Ok so i got it to work also. All i did was replace my system/framework/framework-res.apk with the one in the dump. As i thought it gave me a bootloop afterwards, but then i just factory reset and voila.
