Canceling Google Voice and opening a new account?

When I signed up for Google Voice I did not select an alternate number. I have a new invite and I would like to cancel my current Google Voice number and set up the new account with a new number that I can give out to people.

Has anyone done this before?

1.) Are there any issues with doing this? Can I cancel one account and open another?

2.) Will this cause any problems on the Droid?

you can now get a Google number on your non-Google number account. Go to Settings > Phones > Get a Google number
