Can you flash too many times?

I was just wondering if you could flash too many ROMs/Kernels/Whatever. Would it work the memory too hard and it eventually fails? Is flashing too much or too often bad for the memory?

Given my flashing habits, I would say its rather unlikely... ;)

I've flashed nearly every ROM at one point or another and never had any issues and I know many others on this site flash mutliple times a week and don't seem to have any issues.

Recently I was testing a theme for a member of the forum... in that single day I flashed UD over 14 times (wipe data and cache too) and pretty much I've flashed every ROM available for my D1 since I rooted and haven't have a single issue since then.

I flash at least once a day and a lot more than that when I'm working on my theme

lol I heard a public service announcement that started off like this once... Flashing is virtually harmless. Meaning you won't notice the changes it causes.

Flash memory can wear out with repeated erase cycles. I've developed quite a few bad blocks in my data partition from repeated flashing. However, this causes me no issues in day to day life. And even "quite a few" bad blocks don't diminish storage space by an appreciable amount.

You can flash many many times and the flash memory will still have plenty of life on it when its time to upgrade. Flash memory generally lasts give or take, 5 years, so yes it has a finite life span,
But 5 years from now, the D1 will be looked at like what the first generation blackberries are.

Droid Does......iPhone duhs not!
