Can you customize the notification icons?

One thing that bugs me is that the notification icon for gmail and text message look NEARLY IDENTICAL.

On my last phone they had different colors at least. Im using Nova launcher is this a feature of that? Is it customizable?

Only way I know to change them is to be rooted. Then use a theme from a theme chooser

I use Sms pop up on N2 it will let you set the icon differently ..and when you disable stock notification ..you still use the stock messaging which is cool ..

Thanks guys. I can't be the only one that thinks they're too similar. One has an envelope, the other is the BACK of an envelope. UGh.

They are very similar, but the "M" in Gmail is fairly distinctive, to me at least.

You can use a different messaging app, like Handcent. That icon is different.

K-9 updated their app and now it looks similar to the stock messaging app notification icon, blech.
