can u mod stock droid 1 keyboard?

All these keyboard .apks I can put on my phone I like cause of the prediction screen on the hardware keyboard. But they all have some flaw to them or something that gets on my nerves. Can a dev take the stock droid 1 and just add predictions to hardware keyboard.

if you try out Swiftkey, it just got out of beta so now it is about a dollar in the market. But it will learn from the words you usually type, and it will show three predictions even when you are using the hard keyboard. Its pretty cool how it works.
