Is it possible that if I have a froyo backup, and a gingerbread backup- to switch back and forth without having to wipe and SBF?

So I'm on rooted froyo. For me to go back to my backup of gingerbread, I would have to flash and start over by reinstalling the Gingerbread ROM?
