Can not update to Kitkat

Is anyone able to help?

I am unable to update my Samsung Galaxy 2 (I9100) to Kitkat.
It WAS on Kitkat initially, but after a corrupted memory card issue I was forced to reset to factory settings. (Jellybean)

I've since tried to update to kitkat again via Settings -> About Device -> Software Update -> Update.

However this only tells me that my phone it up to date.

Any ideas?

Did you buy the phone used, if so was it rooted and ROM'd? AFAIK, KitKat wasn't officially supported by the s2 without the use of a custom ROM.

Hi, Thanks for your quick reply.
Nope, I bought it new from Carphone Warehouse.

I'm pretty sure (99%) that I got kitkat after a standard software upgrade as I mentioned above.
It was a legitimate upgrade through the phone settings and not from Google play

Which carrier network are you on?

According to all my research, the latest software for the S2 (I9100) is Android Jelly Bean 4.1.2. As dezymond stated, the only possible way for the S2 to have KitKat is via a custom ROM, but I can't see that as likely since you purchased from a third party retailer.

It's on Vodafone.

Hmmmm so if it's 100% guaranteed that Kitkat is not available on S2 then I must have been mistaken.

However I'm certain it was Kitkat.

I'm with Urban. Everything I found points to Jellybean being the latest update for the s2.

There's a very small chance that maybe the phone was rooted and had a custom ROM loaded onto it when you bought it, but I doubt it's likely. You can check if you were rooted by going through your app drawer and seeing if you have an app called SuperUser or SU still in there.

Doubt it though. And just in case you were wondering, KitKat isn't officially listed to be brought to the s2, the phone is considered to be too far out of its life cycle.

I'm actually now beginning to think that I was obviously mistaken and that I never actually had Kitkat.
Strange.... Thanks for your help though.
