Can I Eliminate Sound Effects?

Hi - I got my Droid X yesterday. First smart phone. I like it a lot - but I can't stand the sound effects that come on all the time with booting up and shutting down, etc. (I guess I am an old fogey! ) I've been told that other than turning off all sounds, including the phone ringing, there is no way to eliminate that annoying sound effect. Any ideas?

if you go in to settings/sound settings and uncheck sd card notifications, there should be no startup sound.
