Can I change the ugly, basic Lollipop home buttons

I just downloaded the Lollipop update and I already hate the home buttons, somebody please help me change it.

Can you provide us with a little more information (Or screen shot) as to what exactly you're not happy with? I've never known an OS update to make a change to the home button, but perhaps this is different on the G3.

There are Apps available that will allow you to change various buttons. Here is an example. If you don't see what you want, search the PS for others. You do need root in most cases. Good luck..

The 3 buttons at the bottom, I don't like the preschool basic shapes for the recent, home, back buttons.

It's part of the core system, so no. Root will be required for sure.

My phone isn't rooted and the no root method is probably for Kit-Kat, not workable on Lollipop.
