Just a small rant that HTC releases an update soon for the camera locking up issues 
I've tried just about every option, and have also tried different camera software. It seems that the problem isn't in auto focus, or where you store the photos. Whenever face detection activates, is when the camera locks up.
Being that it happens in the other software as well, and knowing that HTC ties its camera stuff into the kernel as well, I am suspecting either a kernel or driver or both needs to be updated.
This is the one thing that really irks the hell out of me about this phone.
Note: this is just a small rant, not a debate as to whether the problem is real or not. A quick google search will show you that the issue is in the wild.
