Calendar Events vs Meetings

When I add an "appointment" to my Droid Calendar it is called an "event" the gmail calendar and it gives me options to invite guest if I choose but it is not viewed as a meeting.

The issue is when I open the "appointment" in Outlook I am looking at a "Meeting" it is also telling me that no one has responded to my meeting and it is wanting me to invite people.
It will not let me make it an appointment/event with no attendees.

I want my appointments to be events/appointments and I want my meeting invitations to be meetings/invitations.

Is there a setting I am missing?
