Button on top won't shut the screen off

any ideas? the only thing it does is give my the option to shut down, airplane mode, and silent.

i figured it out. i dl'd "spare parts" and i changed the setting accidentally. i had it set to do 'nothing' instead of 'sleep'

I can't figure this one out either it gives me same option I hit ok for shutdown and it shuts down then about 20 seconds starts up again , in turn never totally shutting off? any ideas?

The screen is always on when the phone is charging.

yeah if you bothered to read the stuff that came with the phone it is always on while charging, so if you have it turned off and you plug it in it will turn on, if its plugged in and you shut it down it will restart. Something to do with power management I'm told, though I'm not certain.

nothing came with the phone just a quick start guide, that really tells you nothing, and a waring on radio emmissions, are gonna fry my brain

You can TAP the button (not hold it down) to turn off the screen, even when it's charging. I do it all the time.

If you hold down the button, it will give you the options (Airplane Mode, Silent Mode, Power Off). If it's plugged into the charger (or your computer's USB port, or the multimedia dock, or the car dock) it will turn itself right back on when you select Power Off.
