Brick Prevention / Recovery

So I know that the locked bootloader prevents us from modifying the kernel, but does it also mean we that can't flash an alternate recovery or perform low level maintenance on the phone? I'm coming from the original Droid where we'd flash an SBF using RSDLite or restore a Nandroid backup if anything went wrong: either as a general cure-all for messing around. Anyone know if (in the event an SPF gets leaked) that RSDLite would be a viable restoration option, or if it's possible to use SPRecovery or Clockwork Mod to make backups? Thanks I'm just nervous right now don't want to brick or bootloop!

Does the Droid 4 not have a standard stock recovery like previous gernerations? Or does Safeboot just disable it?
