Bootloader and Root

I was reading about new moto products blocking the bootloader.
What are all the implications with root.

I want to make sure because I would still like to root and tether but if the locked bootloader will affect this, it will seriously affect my decision

Locked bootloader basically means no custom kernels or ASOP ROMs. U van still root and use root apps and tether... But no crazy fun stuff..
