If I had to guess, it's verizon's feature to smart phone promo. If you go from a basic phone to a smart phone, they send you a $100 gift card for every line.

Got mine yesterday from Amazon Wireless. $149 no tax and a $50 gift card. Best bang for the buck deal. If something pops up that may work better, they offer a 30-day return policy and pick up the tab on the shipping. You still have to call Verizon within the 14-day return period to cancel service. Got my phone the next day.
