"Billing is not supported in this version of Android Market" random pop-up

What is causing this message? Do I have a virus? I've seen it while on dialer and right after pressing airplane mode. Usually I see it while in dialer though.

If it is an app running, is there any other app that logs app activity out there?

I have the same problem with Droid 2.2.2. The message pops up at random even when no application is in use. I use LOOKOUT for virus protection and it reports no problems.
