I'd like a chat app that lets me log into my various chat programs all in one app... what is the best one? Preferably a free one? I use Trillian on my desktop but it's $4.99 in the Market...ouch!

Trillian! I participated in their Beta program, and it was the multi-protocol chat app that used the least Battery resources, IMO.
I hope their commercial version is similar.

Others I've tried:
Palringo
fring
eBuddy (this one looks good too)

eBuddy is pretty nice. I am using IMEasy, it uses GTalk. I like it, very responsive. I only use Yahoo IM, but for the X Yahoo IM is garbage and it lags the phone up. I hope it gets a fix, or somebody makes a skinned version of it.
