Being told to unplug because of full charge, but it clearly is not charged

Any idea why this is happening? It is telling me to unplug the charger because it is charged, even though it is clearly almost dead.

Also, in the middle of the night when I put my phone on the charger, that screen comes up and lights up the entire room for hours until I unplug the phone. Any way around this?

I had that problem on my car charger, turned out the micro usb connector was coming apart. Bought a new car charger and problem went away.

Same here. My original charging/data cable did the same thing. Different cable took care of it.
