I think this "surprise" was similar to the "surprise" that Michael Scott promised his employees in an episode of The Office. Turned out, there never was a surprise.

Yup mine does that. If you have geolocation checked in settings, turn that off and just enter a zipcode for your location. It's the only way I can get my weather to stay updated.

As for the surprise, maybe it is taking longer than he expected. Things happen. He has proven to be a very high quality developer, there is no reason to get upset when he doesn't give you goodies fast enough. It's not like you have a broken product and he is taking forever to fix it.
