Battle of the 4G - Verizon Throws First Blow

A recent tweet from V3RDICT gives us a heads up on Big Red's 4G campaign that will hopefully ignite the beginning of the 4G Phone Wars. I think this one liner sums it up best...

"Verizon now has 4G Service. AT&T doesn't"

Lol they always go after At&t. To be honest when you look at the commercials of verizon making fun of att 3g. Att responds saying they have coverage everywhere but doesn't clarify how much 3g. ATT is bsing there map now because its changed and doesn't tell you there coverages like Verizon does. I don't think At&t can really reply to this but it is amusing.

I was at the IACP Conference in Orlando a few weeks ago and spoke with the Verizon reps there that has information about the 4G network. What is going to happen is Verizon will begin to install 4G antennas basically before releasing the phones. The first 4G phone is currently rumored to appear around the 2nd or 3rd quarter of 2011.

That was pretty much the main gist of it which I believe is smarter because they won't run into issues like those with Sprint.

Since when is VZ fastest ? It barely got 60 kbps for the last couple of months , tested that in 3 different states and the speed is still decreasing . Compared to that Sprint 3G is getting 1.5-2 Mbps 3G and 4-5 Mbps 4G . VZ data speeds are 100 slower than that .

Vz will be almost ten times faster when the 4g is released on all carriers in the US. Check it out. The LTE is alot faster than sprint, att or t mobile, there was a write up on this forum a few weeks back. Besides, now it may not be faster but it works, what is the use having all that speed and cant make a call. just my .02. dancedroid

In Tennessee I get around 800kbs-1.2mb at all times (1mbit+ obviously late at night)

With all the traveling I do for work, I agree with snoop 100%!!! I don't care much for the speeds (for now), but as long as I can call contacts and my wife, I'm golden! Also, with the way I use my Droid, Verizon's network is more than enough. :icon_ banana:

I live in cali and get 2.5 down and .5 up on my incredible and dont matter what time of day.. Cant wait for 4g phones!

Does anyone no if you can be on a phone call and search web with Lte? That would be nice!

Any clues on when it will? My upgrade won't hit until February or March, and if it looks like LTE will be coming soon thereafter, I'll gladly wait to upgrade.

You dealt with an uninformed rep as CEO Ivan Seidenberg says first phone in February (AKA Q1).

In the end AT&T, T-Mo, VZW or Sprint by standard do not and will not have true 4G. I dumped VZW almost a month a go for T-Mobile. I don't need the speeds but my G2 pulls near 10MB Down and 2MB Up at times. Typically it is 5MB Down and 2MB both 2X plus than my Droid and Droid X. I don't think LTE is going to take off like they want because of the cost. Who knows they might make it reasonable
