Battery Life Testing/Observations (Rooted Only)

Can't find in blackdroid

Hey everyone, I've been reading these forums forever and can't believe I never knew about this!

So I was going to try it... I'm rooted and running Blackdroid 6.0 (yes I know 8.0 is out).

The only folder I find is under: /system/bin/dalvikvm and it's 5.39k. Should delete its contents? Is that the right folder? All the commands I have seen in the earlier posts, don't have dalvikvm, but dalvik-cache... so now I'm confused... help please!

:icon_eek:

Managed to get it done Cereal! Went and bought root explorer (been meaning to for a while) Found the dalvik cache folder in data. Deleted contents and I can notice a difference in snappiness. We'll see about battery life tomorrow. Thanks for all the help

*sigh* here I go.. d**n you guys for finding ways to make my phone better :)

Thanks guys I just did this with root explorer. Ya'll weren't kidding on the long boot up time, I was starting to sweat a little. Lol. I'm excited to see even a little battery improvement would be awesome. It seems snappier already.

nope, no on screen keyboard.. guess I won't be doing this.
Emulator> Menu Softkey> Toggle Softkeyboard

Failing that, look in settings and see if it gives you the option. :D

I found the hard keyboard less awkward and I have a problem with my left thumb -- I cut the tendons in it when I was 4 and had hours of surgery to correct it. If I bend it at the wrong angle it'll throb for hours. Heck, it's hurting now thinking about it.

Running the D2 keyboard so I pretty much can't use the hard keyboard cause it's jacked up. SHould have checked the options... dangit. Oh well, next time ya know.

woah.. just..woah. Did I mention woah? Dude where have you been all of my Android life? It's like Christmas came early.

This phone is as fast as I always thought it should be now. I came here for battery life (only time will tell on that) and ended up getting a much more responsive phone. My redraw issues with LP are gone. Who knew?

can the same result be achieved by mounting USB and deleting the contents of the dalvik cache folder?

then reboot?

Nope, for two reasons. First, mounting will only give you access to the sdcard. The cache you're looking for is in system memory, not on the card. Second, you'll need root access to delete it, something that isn't available through USB mount.

The way I did it was that I have ADB (Android Debug Bridge, part of the Android SDK) installed. If you run ADB from your PC, you can navigate around the Droid, and find/delete the cache. Plus, the SDK has lots of neat system tools to play with too!

worked for me too. Mine didnt take long to reboot. Maybe because I recently just flashed a new ROM (like yesterday), so there wasnt much in cache? Idk.

I will be doing this again after a while.

Subjective test results for the OP -- after a few hours off the charger + game playing + heavy music streaming + decent amount of web use = approximately 20% increase in battery life.
