As stated Give them a call and see if they can do something on their end to reset it, If not call for a replacement to be shipped, and last but not least stop in at your local Verizon store. They will replace it for free either way good deal
I was in the Cellular Connection store today and the guy in front of me had the same problem I did. a "red X" appeared in the notifications, saying "Sim Card Authorization Error - Please contact customer service". The salesman said that it might be their 3G/4G upgrading, or "Just a bad sim card" -- and offered to swap it (for $2) -- I didn't have time right then, but the other customer changed his.
I'm new to Droid and Smartphones -- I have had the phone about 5 days and this started on about day 3, with the red X. I was unable to access data/Internet when I was out in public. I could get phone calls, but for example, my weather widget would not update. The store-rep said that perhaps I should disable the wi-fi when I leave home, as "that might be confusing the 3G". He turned it off, and then rebooted the phone. By the time I was in the parking lot, the Red X had returned (but I could still get data this time).
My question is: Is this a hardware or software issue? Will changing the sim card fix it, or is this a "network"/VZW issue? If it's software, perhaps calling Customer Service (whereever that is) will help and they can "Reset" my sim card or phone?
I actually believe it is the upgrade that's causing the issue. I was reading an article today and it basically said that Verizon was upgrading their 4G LTE coverage from something like 60 to 190 coverage zones and there were going to be improvemts seen to 3G as well. I can somewhat attest to this since my 3G coverage has been impressing me. As I stated on another topic about the phone heating up-my 3G activity monitors remain dormant, and white, until I do something and it's been consistently fast. Im far from any sort goddamn expert but I just find it really odd.
I stand corrected. Shortly after j made this post and a a few others I went to make a post and all my bars disappeared and so did the 3G and it showed the 1X which was disheartening
Supposedly, this is a widespread VZW problem, and their Customer Service was telling people yesterday "it should be fixed in 24 hours". So, for now, I won't go get a new sim card. As long as my phone works, and I can use wi-fi for data (at home), I'm OK. I'll wait to see what news comes out. Please post any updates, or info from VZW. Thanks.
I too have SIM card authorization error... Hopefully it will go away when they get the network fixed. I will sit tight for a few days and see what happen.... Have 5 bars of 3G and it seems to work well at the slower network speed. (for now)... I usually got 3 bars of 4G LTE and I have had down load speeds as High as 30.1 MBps useing speedtest.net.
That is a mind boggeling speed, considering my High Speed Comcast with their best home package gives me 20 MBps at best with a hard cable in my house... go figure...
Hope the network is back soon.
A lot of people are getting this notification with the red X. It seems to be related to the 4G LTE Network upgrade and should correct itself in a short time... I hope.

I turned off the phone (power down), took out the sim card, put it back in, and rebooted the phone, and so far, everything looks good -- about 5 hours later. I did this at about 5pm EST. Maybe they've fixed it.
