auto rotation delay.

Hi new to the forum but i have been reading all the S4 stuff before the phone came out to see what everybody thought about the phone.
I upgraded from a charge to the S4 on verizion and so far love the phone. My only gripe is most of the time how slow the auto rotation is. If it were any slowe i would say it just didnt work. Anybody else have this issue?

There is one thread here where the OP reports very slow auto rotation. My phone is lighting fast in that regard. How long does it take to rotate your display.

Sounds like you could have a bad acting app. Try booting in Safe Mode.

Same problem in safe mode. When I booted back to normal its a little better...maybe two second delay but it varies so its probably coincidence. I try to keep all my computer stuff barebones so there quick. Ive been reading about rooting but im shy to go ahead and try it with out some advise. If I root then I can install a new rom. Any advise on something basic like stock, but streamlined and still keeping the all the features that make the S4 what it is?

Its gonna sound stupid but im not sure. I was so into playing with everything and getting used to the features i didnt pay attention. I would like to think i would have noticed if it was like that from the get go but im really not sure.

Is there a form of reset that wont delete everything i have done? For the size of the problem id rather live with it then start over for now.

What I was suggesting takes everything back to the state when you picked up the phone. But there is definitely something wrong with your phone. On mine, the rotation is essentially instantaneous, which I believe is the norm. Ought to be some way to fix this if it isn't a hardware issue. Did you change any of the stock settings, like in the Developer Options?

I was just about to reset it but i have a ? On my old phone if i did a factory reset my sd card was not affected. Before i reset this it says somthing about i cant use the sd card after? Should i pull the sd card before the reset? I def dont want to loose anything i have saved to it.

My understanding is that the Factory Data Reset doesn't affect the SD card. The Samsung site for the S4 says:

"A master reset restores the original factory settings and may delete your personal data on the internal storage, such as downloaded content, ringtones, images, apps, and contacts. It does not delete data stored on the SIM card or SD card."

https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-5744

That said, it can't hurt to remove the SD card first.

Ok did the reset with sd card out if it matters.... problem fixed. Not only that but everthing is faster. Maybe it was goofed from the get go. The speed that apps open and the screen responds is way better now. I had everything backed up so my apps are all reinstalled. I guess I will have to pay attention and make sure it lasts.
