Application Data Low on Space?

I keep getting this error in my notifications bar..I dont have but a few extra apps...I think its my mail server...if I go to mail and then to deleted mail folder it shows over 5,000 deleted emails..is that stored on the phone?? if so how can I get ride of those? it doesnt seem to want to delete them...what else would trigger that error..I have checked and dont see anything else that is running and have moved what I can to my SD card....Thanks..any help or info would be great...
