Apple - The Patent Troll

So apparently Apple has just recently announced that they have been awarded a patent over flexible displays.

Guess there will be another lawsuit against Samsung soon since Samsung said that they were going to release flexible display smartphones next year. What I don't understand is how can Apple be awarded a patent on a product they have no means to produce (they do not manufacture glass screens) other than to put a roadblock on a competitor from coming out with a competing product.

The flexible display one is odd. How can that be? When did they start producing, making displays?

How hasn't Sony or Samsung patented this yet? They've been doing it since BEFORE the iPhone came out or was probably thought up.
