Apple is looking to be a mobile wireless provider?

Lol right? I mean, can they pull it off? I know they have the money. What would the benefit be vs another carrier?

Why doesn't Google just buy Verizon n give us all ice cream sandwiches

Google's money is nothing like Apple's. Anyway, the only hope for this is if Apple's patented networking system mentioned in the article is some kind of system that uses minimal infrastructure at a very low cost point. Unless they offer unlimited data, odds are they aren't going to pull away VZ customers who are grandfathered in or Sprint/T Mobile users who like bang for their buck, and unless they can offer amazing amounts of coverage they aren't going to pull in serious business consumers who need their network to be available anywhere, anytime.

I have no doubt that there will be some kind of research put into this beforehand, but as I don't recall Jobs mentioning anything of this sort before his death I can only assume that this is the brainchild of some new higher ups who think they know the way. Apple does well, Jobs is removed, Apple goes to the brink of destruction; is someone looking to make this round two? Based on currently available data there just doesn't seem to be anything intelligent about this move, but time will tell.

Edit: the other question is will the be an iPhone only network? Certainly would cut down on the number of reps you need when everyone coming in is looking to get a Model T in black.
