Apple is Demanding $180 Million More From the 'settled' Samsung Patent Feud

Feel free to roll your eyes and sigh heavily, we certainly did. Just when we thought it was safe to consider the patent fight between Samsung and Apple officially over, it rears its ugly head yet again. Earlier this month, we shared that the Apple and Samsung patent feud was likely over because Samsung had agreed to pay Apple the settlement amount of $548 Million USD (reduced by the courts from the original amount which was over $1 Billion).

There was one small caveat. Samsung agreed to settle the case, but they reserved the right to a refund if a future ruling invalidates any of Apple's patents involved in the case. Regardless of this small stipulation, this seemed like it would be the end of the story. Sadly, Apple's lawyers were apparently not satisfied with this.

Apple is now back in court demanding another $180 million on top of the $548 million in damages. They came up with that amount by splitting it between $178.7 million in supplemental damages and $1.2 million in prejudgement interest. At this time, neither company has made any public statements on the matter. How many times will this get resurrected before it's finally, truly, irrevocably, and completely... finished?

This is about as dumb as making a remake of the movie Point Break, oh wait... someone did that too...

Didn't 60 something people in Samsung factories get like $80 million for damages after getting cancer due to unsafe work environments?

And Apple wants twice that amount because what....oh right. "They took my idea and also made a phone with a touch screen, wah!"

I will seriously never understand these big companies. Exactly how much money do you need before you're content? Imagine the things we could accomplish if we stopped bickering like little kids in a grocery store, and everyone put their brains and resources together.

The money has a lot to do with it, but I think it's really about Apple wanting to take Sammy's slot as the world's largest supplier of mobile phones.

Not true at all. They want their patent money.

A company who makes almost $50 billion a year is definitely making it on its own.

Yes..if it was a legitimate patent ..apple has made some stupid patents..frivolous law suites..and now they want more money??
Really..let's think about this..you hire your competitors to make your parts. You really think that they won't find a way to incorporate them into their product or at the very least, sell the same parts to more of your competitors??
Apple tried to patent a shape. And I believe they did until recently...when it was thrown out..they ahold both be sued for wasting our time with vague crap and not being inventive enough to really come up with "game changing ideas".. After all ...apple is so stale now..alot of their users claim its Android that actually works...

Patent wars have been going on for well over a century. Just look at Tesla, Marconi & Edison. A hundred years ago Tesla created wireless electricity transmission, with the ability to light lightbulbs miles away (wirelessly) yet that technology was stolen (some say) and suppressed for decades. Look at us know, we just recently have wireless charging pads for our devices. (And even then, the devices need to be touching) It's sad when corporations suppress technology for their own financial gain, yet it's been going on for a lot longer than we've all been alive, and will continue to go on long after we're dead.

I will say..as cool as the wireless lighting idea is...I'd actually love to see some Tesla coils around in today's society...can you imagine the people that would kill themselves?? Lol..I almost feel bad that the very thought thrills me..lol..

I use a local credit union, and they bow to Apple. They released Apple Pay, and when I asked them about Android (or Samsung) Pay, they scoffed at me. I told them that statistically, we can assume more of their members use Android than iOS. It's like she took personal offense to it.

I've actually thought about leaving my credit union of 10+ years for it.

I use Wells Fargo and chase..and they both jumped on apple pay really quickly..I said what about Android?? It's been around for 2 years already..I actually complained and made some emails to both companies.. I'm tired of that ..

Consistency.
With Apple it's Apple Pay.
Android Pay= Which carrier? Which manufacturer? Which version of Android? Companies don't want to spend resources on app development that take fragmentation into account and I don't blame them.
