app.phone crashes, locking up entire phone

So, on my OG Droid 1 (bought on just about release day) I've been running Peter Alfonso's (Bugless Beast) Gingerbread build 15 but this problem also happened when I was on Cygenmod 7 as well. I'm not 100% sure if this is a gingerbread thing or not since I vaguely remember it happened before I put Gingerbread on as well.

Anyway, what basically is the problem is that the Phone app doesn't work sometimes. I can sometimes make a call but after the call ends the phone will just blackout and I either won't be able to hang up without a battery pull or I get stuck in an "app.phone has crashed. Force Close or Wait" and pressing either does nothing. Which I then need to do a battery pull to get my phone working again. This also happens when receiving calls with the same outcome.

It doesn't matter if it's on bluetooth or not it still happens. And it is annoying.

Is there any way of fixing this? Is there a way to replace the entire Phone app? All I find on market is different dialers which isn't the same. It's incredibly annoying.

I'm up for a new phone in a month, but if I can fix this I may wait for Ice Cream Sandwich phones before upgrade. If I can't, I want to throw this damn phone at a wall until it is in little pieces.
