Anyway to set phone to retrieve messages?

Hello.

I have a Motorolla Droid X and like it very much. I have it synced with my school e-mail account so whenever I get messages I will know about it. Once thing I notice, though, is that I won't get a notification unless I make the phone active. For example, if I receive an e-mail at 6:15 P.M., I will not receive a notification of that e-mail unless I start using the phone or use the Gmail application, which may not be for hours at a time.

What I want to know if there's a setting to send my phone a notification the second I receive an e-mail, or if there's a way to scan for new e-mail every 15 or 30 minutes? Any help would be appreciated.

Gmail receives email as it's delivered and it will notify you immediately. That is, unless you've set it up otherwise.

If you're frequently on WiFi then you might want to look at your WiFi sleep setting or anything that may be preventing the gmail app from receiving email in a timely fashion.
