Anything to make the top status bar darker?

The status bar is by default silver, but I'd like it to be darker so that it doesn't stand out as much. I know Home++ has the ability to hide it, but I like having it show for notifications and the pull-down feature.

But if you don't want to root your phone I don't think its possible.
