Anyone know for sure if the AIM app charges text rates if you IM a phone?

I don't have unlimited texting on my phone because most people were on Verizon but unfortunately that's not the case now, so I was thinking of using the AIM app to essentially text their phones. I know I can do this from the computer to their phones, but does anyone know if using the app from MY phone will charge me a text message each time?
