Anyone else being forced to give up their unlimted data plan?

My wife and I share a plan with a grandfathered unlimited data plan. I got a Maxx a few months ago and now she is eligible for an upgrade. Verizon says effective last month that if you upgrade to a discounted phone you have to get a new plan and lose the unlimited data. Only way to keep the unlimited plan is buy the phone at full retail price. WHAT? That is bull****! Anybody else run into this? Is there a way to get a new phone at the advertised price and keep the unlimited data plan?

My wife and i just went through it. We chose to buy razr maxx's on ebay and tell verizion to stick there tiered plans where "the red dont shine" lol.
Bsst part of it all is we only spent $110 more on both phones combined over the verizion "sale" aka "rape me and throw me in a tiered plan" pricing. Lol

This is pretty old news. I think it was announced/posted here about three or four months ago...maybe more. June 28th, 2012 was the last time anyone could upgrade at "discounted" prices and keep unlimited data. From that date forward, you either move to tiered or family share for phone discount or buy your phone at full retail to keep unlimited data.

We were all making a big noise about this the entire month of june... there's no way except to add a line, get it one 2 gig data plan, then switch the phone over to your unlimited line.

Or buy off of Craigslist or swappa..

The new line should only be 10$.. and would use the minutes that you and the wife share.. unless you're on two single line plans.... then it gets more expensive. .

Verizon really can't say anything to you for buying a new phone else where. I've bought both my Razr, Razr Maxx off craigslist and bought my Thunderbolt off my cousin and they don't ask any questions when you ask for the proper Sim Card. Not really any of their business from who and where you got the phone. Unless it's stolen, then I'm sure they will ask a bunch of questions.

I got lucky, I found out about it about a week before June 28th, so I got a new Maxx on sale and kept my unlimited data. If they try to force me to another plan I will take my bizness elsewhere, and I told them so. I interrogated that poor CSR on the phone and made sure my plan was not changing with the new phone.

You have to figure they were screwing us anyway. Look at it like this. If they are incorporating the difference in price between what you pay for a new phone and full retail, then after the contract is up your monthly bill should go down unless you get a new phone. But it doesn't! Its just like them charging for text messages which really don't tie up any data when compared to the actual cost of making a phone call. I'll get a prepaid cell before they change my plan again....
