Still keeping my eye out for a GB leak or a time frame for VZW update. Seriously considering ditching D2G for lack of support.

Really? It looks like you already have a thunderbolt, thats what your signature says.

Look, a point here. The global is a considerably different phone from the x and droid 2. As such it is harder to develop for. Things take time, and just be patient.

considering the phone got launched not long time ago is not that big deal for no updates. Look at fascinate. still at 2.1 sigh

Wow hostilies, didn't mean to offend anyone. Yes I do have a thunderbolt, a dx and d2g. There are several roms/mods for d2 and dx and I was just curious if 2.3 had leaked or if anyone knew about it? Hadnt seen anything, just thought i'd through it out for debate and maybe get a thread going about it. I wasn't demanding just seems as if the d2g isnt looked at much. Seems a lot of you just flip through looking to jump someone's s***. Nevermind

Look, there's no need to be so abrasive, your sig does say you have a tbolt, and it is harder to dev for the D2G, and its newer so it gets updates after the older models, no need to take a comment so personally

I'm referring to the 2.3 leak for the d2 and dx the d2g was said to be soon to follow. Everyone here gets their information from a variety of sources. I was simply trying to start a thread and maybe get some info going around. I have no doubt that the d2g is harder and more extensive to dev for. However, the update was made by motorola from what I have come to conclude. That's what people at motorola spend all day doing and get paid probably really well to do. Not someone going to school with a wife and kids developing in their spare time. I didn't know how sensitive the sort of subject was, note taken-> Don't post in a d2g thread using a tbolt. Got it. The lack of support meaning that it gets looked over and it doesn't seem have a lot of interest. It's a subversion of the d2. The thunderbolt is what 2 weeks old and has how many roms, mods, skins, themes? The D2G has what? I paid about the same price for each device. Do I really need to research update time lines on all devices to determine when is a proper time to ask "any word on updates?" The reason I ask is the phone runs like garbage. My OG ran twice as smooth, twice as fast, lasted twice as long, and had everyones attention since day one. To be honest I'd like to see some improvement on this pricey piece of equipment and anyone who owns one probably agrees. Yes a software fix would be pleasantly accepted. So that being said if you dont have a word or insight this thread is not intended for you. I didn't ask what device I used to post a thread.

Which phone got the ax?
D2 or D2G?
Its the D2 that got the axe, not the D2G.
Patience is the key. Motorola and verizon have been pushing this whole "droid does" campaign. I'm sure they want their phones to be at the top. From what I know, don't quote me, the DX and D2 are pretty much the same so a few tweaks and the DX leak was able to work for the D2.
One of the biggest difference with the D2G is how it has
both cdma and gsm antennas.

Think about it, Motorola has how many products?
Im pretty sure my Rokr E8 was at it eol when I got it, since that was a bit before Motorola really started pushing all these android phones out. Even till today the modding community for that phone is pretty much dead now.
Im sure Motorola have their people working on just about everything. But trying to get an OS update that will try to please everyone and get the carriers approval sounds like a whole lot. Even then im sure there are tons of people who don't even know what version of android they have, what root means, or who would even update when available.

I'm just trying to see things in a more broader view.

I don't care. My D2G is the first Android phone/device I've ever had and I agree with Androidgeek. Seriously considering ditching D2G for lack of support. Both from Moto and the community. I've had my phone since it was released in November, and I've only seen ONE ROM that was released for it by the community.

And apparently people jump all over your **** here, I'm not bashing the community. It's obviously just the lack of adoption. I only bought the D2G so I could use it when I traveled, but that's also the same thing that killed it. They should just drop the D2G (they will soon) and stop wasting people's time.

Then do it already, stop complaining, and get out of the d2g board. We dont need guys like you flogging around your personal phone demons. It gets nothing done.

Hey, what about this instead, YOU learn to code for android, and YOU start making ROMs, instead of complaining like children about updates and such. Otherwise suck it up.

+1. The biggest reason the d2g has no support is because the devs don't have them, they have dx/d2's instead. Also yes, the d2g is much harder to dev for. Just comparing side by side, there are alot of files that are different.

About the GB leaks, yes they were made by people at Moto. However, the reason the dx/d2 versions got leaked but not the d2g is because of 2 things. 1) they are very very close to the same. That means they just have to tweak the kernel and a few system files instead of rewriting basically the entire thing. 2) according to P3droid (the one who released the leaks) its still at Moto having the firmware written for it.

The reason people get kinda ticked off is because of people continuously complaining about lack of support for the d2g. Yes, the tbolt is still really new and has alot of support. However, its also open compared to this. There were also alot of devs that got them.

People keep in mind our community developers develop these roms for free. they are not getting paid to them. They are doing out of love of their work. Like others said. Not many developers have the DG2. Why would they get that phone since it was released not too long after the Droid2. Regarding motorola, I think the phone is not that old. Thats why they are not making the DG2 update a priority over the droid X and Droid2. Just have some patience and eventually the update will come out.

Obviously you bought the WRONG phone and made an uneducated guess!

You paid more for your phone to get features you were never going to use!
Why did you Buy a GLOBAL phone if you never intend to leave the country?

Most intelligent people bought the D2 and DX because they were smart enough not to spend MORE money on a feature that not only they will never use but KNEW it would make it 10 times harder to develop for and customize due to the schizophrenic nature of the radio hardware!

Why do other CDMA units geta ton of support and options? Because one CDMA Rom is pretty similar to another CDMA rom. All that needs to be changed is a few drivers in the system to make it work.
A ROM that is made for a CDMA ONLY phone of one brand can pretty easily be ported to work on another because the radio is essentially the same is controlled the same and has everything needed because it was MEANT TO WORK on a CDMA Phone?

Why do the GSM folks have options and support? READ ABOVE and do a find/replace of CDMA with GSM!

All the folks who have AT&T GSM service are using ROMS from other GSM units and porting them.
All the folks with VZW or Sprint CDMA service are doing the same.

Ther are only two phones currently that have Hybrid radio systems. The D2G and the Droid Pro!
There are no other units that do it that we can steal rom files from, They haven't been invented yet!

Why did the thunderbolt get such quick support?
Well it is a ONE SYSTEM radio! 4G to be precise! If it had the multiple radios we have in the D2G it would be as unsupported as we are!

4G is a STANDARD
CDMA is a STANDARD
GSM is a STANDARD
What the D2G is anything but STANDARD!

SO you can't just use standard equipment to modify and change it!

If your prepared to dump the D2G over lack of support then the truth is you bought the wrong phone in the first place!
You went and got a formula one when all you needed was a CHEVY!

Everyone has a Chevy and can do work on one. Most Chevy parts work in any other Chevy! Can't put Chevy parts in a Formula One!
You have to be really good and know what your doing to modify a formula one!

Thats why you aren't getting or seeing as many ROMS for D2G as you do for D2/DX and any other SINGLE RADIO STANDARD unit that has been released!

And if you don't realize this or didn't expect this when you bought the unit then you probably have no business flashing ROMS in the first place because it will be obvious your clueless and will brick it before the warranty is up!
