Any Google Talk alternatives?

I send most of my messages from Google Talk, but I find the stock apk rather lacking. I have not found any alternatives, so I thought I might as well ask.

I was wondering if anyone knows an alternative or if a dev has modified the stock one?

Nothing good that I've found. I'm holding out hope that ChompSMS or Handcent will release a Gtalk capable update.

I'm not sure that they will. Google Talk and SMS/MMS are completely different animals. You'd need an app like Trillian or Beejive (when released).
