Any fairly simple hiking apps, with offline maps?

Tried many apps, but I want a simple app with a compass, markers and offline maps.

Any suggestions?

Have you tried Google maps? It has an offline mode that allows you to download sections of a map to use without a data connection.

Tried that. I cannot get Google maps offline function to work without a data connection like it should.

I got it working but still not quite what I am looking for.

Something more like a "car finder" app, where I can place markers and use a digital compass to find them.

It may take a little work, but you could save your own maps with Google from a computer and save and map points. Also in the Android app, you can long press the gps icon (your location), touch the pop up, and "star" that exact point. Not sure if this will help you.
