Who the crap is Apple to say what content grown men and women should have access to? That old 1984 commercial of theirs is looking more and more ironic every day.

I'm 50/50 on this. I don't believe in banning, but sectioning off in an "Adults Only" area I would have understood. Of course that raises the question, "But how do you police that?"

Has anyone seen a movie called "This Film Not Yet Rated". It's interesting in that the movie industry has fewer restrictions on violence (assault, murder) but almost any level of sexuality will set off alarms. Seems Apple is going down this path. Could be a slippery slope.

I think it's nuts, why have things like content controls on your devices if Big Brother going to control content for you. I think Apple just want to control everyone and everything.

Do you like the idea that youtube ban sexual contents or not? is that a good or bad? I'm with Apple on this issue. Smartphones will take over the world in a year or two, and most teenagers will own one. Not that they can't upload their own. But IMHO, I think it is a right thing to do. You might not like it, but I think it is a good approach for marketing.

you tube is a private owned website offering its server space for free to people to share videos. there server space there rules. i own a droid, i got it at a discounted rate buy buying into a service agreement with a cell company, but at the end of 2 yrs its mine. my phone, my content. who is apple to not allow sexy apps on someone elses phone. its like apple telling its mac users they cant watch porn on there computer. if apple wants to ban sexy apps on there company paid employees phones so be it. not private users.

I agree! maybe have it so that when you go into the store to get the phone they set a limit on it automatically, and it can only be changed in the store with an id...

Do computer-makers restrict what websites you can visit? No. That would be a stupid idea. How does the fact that the computer is pocket-sized make this any different?

I don't see why a company should decide what's right for me or my family. How is a company going to make the "right" decisions for every household. They can't because every household is different. So give the users the tools to decide for themselves and the tools to lock things out for their kids. Like SG said, put it in an adults-only section and give parents the ability to PW-lock that section.

As for marketing, why restrict yourself to the children/family market when you could market to everyone?

One of the problems I have with this action is that Apple blocked some apps for content, but not others. Playboy is an acceptable app? Do people read it for the volleyball scores?

How do you feel about network tv? They ban sexual content (well, to a certain degree). You bought the tv - they control what you see (unless you pay for specific adult channels). Is this any different? Curious. I don't view porn on my computer or my tv, but if I wanted to I can't imagine trying to view it on a tiny 3" screen instead of a large tv or monitor. Okay - a tangent..

I personally feel that there should be some kind of control - if nothing more than the rating system for movies. Then lock it out yourself with tools, as you mention. Are we as a moral race down to where any and all should be easily visible now, with only ourselves to police content? I don't know - certainly a big issue that requires a lot of thought across many issues.

On the question of Apple - yes, they make the device - but they also provide the OS, and it's through this that they control the content (not as a hardware manufacturer). A lot different than HP, Dell, Motorola, etc who only make the hardware. Big distinction. mike

Seriously - where do you go to see the total amount of apps? I've heard there were about 50,000 apps, vs almost 200,000 for the iPhone. Are these numbers correct? mike

They took down content like "Wobble" because one of the marketing tools they use is that you can make women's "boobies" wobble. But, it is not a sexual app. Because it was marketed as a tool that could be used in a "sexual" way, it was banned.
