Recently a tech-industry personality named Robert Scoble shared a rumor that Andy Rubin, the beloved creator and head honcho of Android at Google, would be leaving the company to lead a new startup called CloudCar. Obviously Android fans everywhere gasped in dismay at the thought of it. Luckily, Mr. Rubin has come forward himself via Twitter to dispel this rumor. Not only that, but Rubin explained in greater detail how this rumor came about via his own Google+ page. It seems that this new startup called CloudCar is owned by friends of his. Andy was simply kind enough to share some office space in his Los Altos startup incubator for them. Well, that's a relief.

On a quick sidebar, Mr. Rubin also shared in the same Tweet that Android is now up to 900,000 activations per day! That's up from 700,000 and the end of last year. It seems that there is no stopping the amazing momentum of the little green "Andy", and it also seems that the real-life Andy is going to stick by him!

I'm glad I found this thread. I have a question. Are the number of activations accounting the people that are flashing roms and having to reactivate etc?

Andy Rubin scares me.

LOL. Why is that? Is it perhaps because he shares the same name with his product? Could it be that you suspect the Android smartphone is his attempt at world-domination?

Shhhhh, that's inside information. You don't want to compromise the mission :D

no. even if they did, it would be such a small drop in the bucket that you wouldn't notice (on a daily basis).

I dunno...sometimes I flash up to 7-8 times in a day.
I'd say at least 100000 of that is crack flashers like myself

Unless you do it EVERY day, your crack-flashing isn't going to put a dent in it. Remember, this is an average activations PER day (they get these metrics by looking at activation trends and extrapolating that data on a PER DAY basis). So if you don't do any flashing on monday, you have to DOUBLE your flashing on tuesday to make up for it...there's no way this community puts a huge dent in that number ON AVERAGE.

I don't think they even look at a rom being flashed as an activation. they most likely get this information from a few different sources. New lines, new contracts, renewed contracts and units shipped to stores. Regardless, even if this community put up 100K activations a month, 800K EACH day is just as insane (to me) as 900K EACH day - both seem pretty high to me but if the number are accurate I'm fine with that too - the more android activiations = the less apple activations = die iphone die lol
