Most of us know that the Android version code names have been as follows:

Cupcake
Donut
Eclair
FroYo
Gingerbread
(next slated OS)

That said, has anyone else noticed that their nomenclature has been ALPHABETICAL? (C,D,E,F,G)

That makes me wonder if there were code names prior to Cupcake that were "A" and "B" code names? Maybe these were the test versions before Cupcake originally came out?

Also, what do you folks think will come after Gingerbread!? If they continue their current approach to their code names (alphabetical & desserts/treats), it should begin with the letter "H"!

Maybe Huckleberry Pie?! :icon_ goofy:

Mmmmm..... pie

I was talking to a Google engineer about Android and he said he was running Honeycomb on his Nexus for a bit, but went back to gingerbread because it wasn't really stable yet.

Who knows, that could just be an internal name they gave it...

Just some guesses:

A - Apple Pie
B - Banana Split

Little known fact, "froyo" was a popular term on the stanford campus years before it was popularized. Stanford has a lot of these cutesy terms...memchu (memorial church), coho (coffee house), etc.

H - hotcakes?

Android A and B were prototypes. Never released or announced.
H is slated as Honycomb.

Android has seen a number of updates since its original release. These updates to the base operating system typically fix bugshttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software_bug and add new features. Generally, each new version of the Android operating system is developed under a code name based on a dessert item. Past updates included Cupcake and Donut. The code names are in alphabetical order (Cupcake, Donut, Eclair, Froyo, Gingerbread, Honeycomb, and the upcoming Ice Cream Sandwich). Below is a list of the most recent versions, and what they include:

Future releases that have been announced include:
