Android 2.2 - Froyo

SO the Droid will be getting 2.2 seeing how they have promised us flash and seeing how you need 2.2 for flash so lets start pestering Motorola lol. If you want Flash 10.1 for android the beta download link is now available Adobe Labs - Downloads: Flash Player 10 Prereleases (One requirement is 2.2 lol):)

Is FROYO another term for 2.2? And if & when this becomes available...will it get pushed to our handsets or will we need to download it?

TIA,

Brian

They are synonymous. Updates come over-the-air or OTA.

Okay lets be honest......... Motorola will release the update to Verizon, Verizon will take all the good stuff out and "fix the glitches" then send it to the Droids. They will take months to do this all the time telling everyone that it has been sent to testers and that there are still some complications....... Sounds just like the months of BS we were given over the 2.1 update. Y'all don't hold your breath for a quick release of the 2.2 OTA.

I am rooted and will not go back to stock. The 2.1 update messed with my Droid so much. I personally think the custom ROMs will have the 2.2 stuff long before Verizon gets off their a$$ and put the OTA out there. That is what happened with the 2.1.

Just my opinion.

You might be right but you could be wrong too.

Did you own a Droid when all we had was 2.0? 2.0.1 went out actually before the rumored date. There wasn't any hang up from Verizon. And I'm not certain that Verizon was the one who pulled the so called "good stuff" off our version of 2.1. Maybe Motorola or Google couldn't get it to work properly.

Come on, the glass is half full. :)

Glass half full? Wow you are putting WAY too much faith in Moto/Verizon, particularly Moto. Those guys can't tell their asses from their elbows. Why do I say this? Simple. Cliq/Dext/Backflip/Devour all Android 1.X running MotoBlur and have been out for a while. Motoroi and Flipout running Android 2.1 and MotoBlur yet there is still no update in site for any of the 1.X devices. The only factor here is MotoBlur which now runs on Android 2.1. Android 2.1 on any device is for the most part the trivial part of the equation. Hell Cyanogen got 2.1 on a freakin' G1 running like a champ you would think a multi billion dollar corporation could get their dev team to do to the same in a timely fashion.

Froyo (2.2) and Cool New Music Abilities

Two of the more exciting features announced today for the newest OS are:

  • Stream non-DRM music library from your home computer onto your Android device
  • Purchase music over the air from a non mobile destination and/or Android market
How do we imagine these might work exactly, specifically?
Would we have a program on our PC/Macs to activate/initiate the former. Would we have to have Chrome installed?
For the latter, will Market have its own music library? Will some 3rd party (amazon?) run it?

I'm pretty excited about this, I just hope that it can stream from a linux machine. I'd hate to have to set a computer up for something like this.
