Android 2.2 - Froyo

When 2.2 Starts to Arrive Question

I know its early yet, but it crossed my mind and I thought I'd ask. I'm using HelixLauncher on my Moto Droid. When the day comes that Verizon starts sending out the 2.2 update. Do I need to be back at the stock launcher?

Why is it called froyo?

Froyo = Frozen Yogurt, if you didn't know.

Google has named each version of Android a different desert. From Cupcake and Donut to Éclair and now Froyo. Next is Gingerbread. This is just how Google has done it so far, and I'm fine with them doing it for now on.

It's better than misleading phone versions such as iPhone 4G, which is most certainly not a 4G phone.

No it might not work on 2.2 unless it gets updated, but it wont matter what launcher you are running when the update comes.

That's good to know, I just installed helix yesterday and was wondering the same thing.

I would love to say that I'm running the Honeybun version of Android. I get a few laughs when I tell people that have android phones that I'm running Éclair. Honeybun would be too funny though.

The BT voice calling is in FroYo. I'm not sure about the individual alerts - I haven't heard anything about this.
