Will i still be able to try the phone out for 30 days without fear of not being able to return it?(HIGHLY unlikely that i would want to return it, but w/e), and also, would i be able to purchase insurance thru verizon? I'm probably going to buy it now or over the weekend, just wanna make sure i can get it insured and everything.

Sure you can. This is a standard deal with Verizon, no "magic" about it.

But I think people are confused regarding pricing on the Moto Droid vs HTC Eris with "every 2". I'm looking at that now. It's the Eris that's currently $100 w/2-year contract. The Moto Droid is $200. So this is a good deal.

I have this evil plan to call verizon and try to get an upgrade 3 months early, and then later order the phone for $49 through amazon instead of going through a verizon store. Does anyone know if this will work or maybe tried something like this?

I'm thinking about ditching my Blackberry Tour for a Motorola Droid. I have a 2 year agreement coming up in a few days. I keep reading "$49.99 with a new account" Is this the same as a new 2 year agreement? Thanks!

Need to Buy a Droid

I screwed-up, In January, my wife's phone and my phone were available for the 2 yr. upgrade. Stupid me - I went in a bought a chocolate touch for me. In the meantime my wife saw the droid and she thought it looked nice so I bought it for her (not knowing what a great phone it is). I have been setting up and downloading apps to her phone. Bottom line - I feel in love with the droid and now I want one for myself. Problem is I'm under contract for 2 yrs.

Possible options:
1. Pay early termination fee on my phone and buy a new droid (possibly at Best Buy)
currently $99 with 2yr contract.
2. Add a new line to my plan and pay monthly service for another phone (the new Droid)
3. Buy from amazon for $50 with a new contract
etc.
Anyone have advice - I want a droid!

Yes, it is the same, new account also equals renew contract for 2 years. Use BestBuy's mobile upgrade checker to verify if you can upgrade your number or not.

I wasn't sure if my wife could get one so we ordered it through Amazon for $49.95, it asked us a bunch of questions to verify she was eligible and it arrived two days later.

There are no disadvantages to buying it this way. A few minor differences - you HAVE to call Verizon Wireless to activate it unlike if you go into the store. Then if you want the store to transfer your old phones contacts into the new phone you need to go to a store.

Those are the only differences.

i have a couple questions, if anyone can help itd be great.
im on a family plan with my brother and some friends. my brother used my NE2 last year and now he's eligible for an upgrade. if i ordered the droid from amazon with his number, could i activate it with my number?
i need to know if would be able to switch the 29.99 'Unlimited PDA/Smartphone Web Browsing and Email' that i order with his number on amazon to my number also.

I went to order the phone tonight, but I didn't realize you had to purchase a new plan. I thought the $50 phone was just for a contract "new every 2". Can somebody clarify?
