Already rooted!

Ok guys my question is. I am already rooted with gingerbread, and I want to upgrade to 2.3...in order for me to upgrade do I need to unroot first. I am perfectly happy at this moment and I do not want to give up wifi tethering. Can I get some advice? I am reading alot,but a good percentage sounds like jibber jabber. P.s im willing to learn, so basically im saying is that im not lazy. Thx

First post in this thread has the exact steps you need to take in order to get to a rooted Gingerbread for the Droid x2

UPDATED - [HOW-TO] SBF back to stock Froyo, Update to P3Droids Pre-Rooted GB Update - xda-developers


This is the only I know that works correctly. You have to SBF your phone as the first step so it doesn't matter if you are rooted or not. You will not be after the first step.


The steps are basically:
0. Backup up phone using your favorite backup methods. I would copy both sdcards to a PC after doing a nandroid backup.
1. Factory reset phone, wipe caches and internal sdcard and then Flash phone to Froyo SBF.
2. Factory reset again.
3. Activate phone. You can skip Google setup.
4. Copy gingerbreak, recovery installer, and P3's update.zip to external sd-card.
5. Gingerbreak phone
6. Install recovery.
7. Boot into recovery and apply update.zip from ext-sdcard.
8. Boot into phone. Enjoy.

Pestilence, Famine and Death!!!

Nothing really. You will not be rooted and the superuser icon will not work. Nor will you be able to remove it. Apps that depend on root will not work.

Man I thought I could do this but it is too confusing with the limited knowledge I have. If you have a paypal account I would be more than willing to pay for (as one poster said)a caveman can do it. Im right below the caveman.lol..I rooted my phone with just one app. Is it at all possible to do that now. Thx
