all excited about the new one click root, but before that..now I need to learn more

About roms....I've been reading around this forum but still have a few questions.
1) is there anyway I can back up my system on my phone (my computer is out of service )
2) after rooting what are the next steps (remember never rooted and I have no computer.
3) what roms are compatible with titanium pro, meaning what won't simi brick my phone after freezing stock apps.
4) what is RSD lite, do I need to learn that?

1) Yes, Bootstrap Recovery and/or ROM Manager. Both will backup your current ROM (default) and will place it on your SD card without needing a computer.

2) Your next step after rooting should be the suggestion in #1, make a backup of current. Then read on all the ROM's and Theme's out there to see what interests you. If you decide you want both, install ROM first, then your Theme. Make sure you read on whats compatible for what. Google search is a great thing.

3) My understanding is all ROM's are compatible with Titanium BU. Titanium BU is an app. You just have to watch out for app restores after installing ROM's and Theme's cause you may end up with duplicate apps.

4) Yes. Yes you should learn about RSD Lite and SBF. Once again, use Google for that. That is needed in the events of bricking your phone.

Best advise I can give you, is read read read:)

Tc430...where do you get these sb files, and who is "sticky" ,do I save it on my sd card, also revis what does holding the home key and the power button do? How do you save to the sd card?
Since you don't have a PC, you can still download the SBF, RSDLite and the MotoConnect drivers to your SD card using only your phone's browser. Just look around for download links and click on them to start the download on the phone(if your phone tells you that the download failed, you will need to enable downloading of *all* file types through the phone browser. Easiest way to do this, is to download Astro File Manager from the market, in it's settings is an option to enable the ability to download any file type straight from your phone).

Honestly, without access to a PC, I wouldn't do too much with the X. I never once had to use an SBF with my D1, and was very well versed in recovering my phone using just the phone. The problem with the X is that you can't fully replace the stock recovery with Clockwork, like you could on the D1. So if you happen to brick your X, simply turning the power on while holding the Home button isn't a fallback to restoring a previous nandroid backup, as you will be greeted with the stock recovery that you can't do anything with. If you get stuck in a boot loop after installing a theme, or stuck at the M logo on boot, you're only real option, for now, is to use an SBF. I've already had to do this 2-3 times on my X in the past 3 days lol. Mainly because the new Fission ROM will NOT boot on my X for some reason, sticks on a boot loop(open to suggestions on this problem, by the way lol, wanna try that ROM). I would, at least, download a copy of RSD Lite, MotoConnect and the SBF file on my phone and have them on my memory card, just in case. That way, you could at least use someone else' computer to restore your phone(so long as they had a MicroSD Card reader or another device that would allow the transferring of the files to their computer). Just my two cents. Messing with the X is not nearly as forgiving as the D1.. thank you Moto and your boot loader :icon_evil:

Did you ever get the loop problem fixed, how did that work out for you

I did sort out the boot loop. It was due to me skipping the steps to clear the dalvik-cache and battery stats under the advanced menu. I'd never had to do that for a ROM and completely forgot about the steps when installing. Went back and reread the instructions. Everything is working great and blazing fast at 1.45Ghz :)
