Aftermarket stereo in a ford ranger

I've wired up a aftermarket stereo in my truck and it works fine. However when I turn on my headlights my dash lights do not come on. Any ideas?

Bad wiring? Bad grounds? Normally it's just a simple plug and play, but sometimes aftermarket HU require an added accessory (such as another wiring harness) to avoid such problems.

There are two orange wires labeled dimmer. If I plug it up with battery power and headlight switch turned off the market lights stay on. But still no dash lights.

Ford truck have crappy headlight switches mine often burn out (3 so far on my ford ranger had 4 years).

Might check that before pulling your hair out. $15 or so at Autozone.

Sometimes you can remove it and see the plastics near the plug actually melting.
Mine all go out with no warning.

Its working now. Had a bad fuse. Shouldn't have overlooked that...thanks guys
Was going to suggest checking the fuse. Had the stereo fuse go out on my car and overlooked it. Ended up going to a local dealership for them to look at it and the first thing the tech did was bring out a new fuse, replaced it and it worked. I felt so foolish:D

LMFAO...
sorry I can just picture myself ripping the truck apart...

Just don't tell us if it was your wife or girlfriend that suggested it.
