Device: GT-P5210 | Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10.1"
Android version: 4.4.2

Everytime I unlock my device, Internet opens up and directs me to an adcash page.
I also noticed a large banner appearing from time to time over over other apps where there shouldn't be one.

I tried removing recently installed apps and ran Avast anti-virus, but the problem still persists.

Welcome to the forum

Do you have more than one browser installed, if so does it happen with others browsers?

Try installing Malwarebytes to see if it can locate the problem.

Go to settings > applications > all and find Browser. Delete the cache and settings to see if that helps.

Still nothing... I noticed it installed some more apps (including a poker game I can't remove) and a push ad

You should be able to uninstall the poker app. That may be the problem. There are some app uninstaller apps on the play store. I suppose you have restarted at least once. This app may also help, AirPush Dertector
Restarting did not help and the poker app vanished without any interaction.

EDIT: found the poker app again and used a Root app remover to get rid of it. This did not fix the issue though.

Didn't remember you mentioning you were rooted, should have asked. Can't be any more help, sorry.

A factory reset sounds like a possibility.

This seems to have solved my issue. And yes, I should have mentioned my device was rooted...
